When I try to close my Google email account, Google will not let me. I’m
sure that Yahoo mail would be the same. How do I go about closing my Google

happen.

It might be that if you have an Android smart phone using the Google account (and gmail) in question that Google will not let you (easily) delete the account. I may test this with an older phone that I no longer use.
I Want to restart a google account, but first I must cancel the existing one … and you wont let me! It has been inactive since about 2019 (ref Portuguese lawyer). If there has been any changes since then, it has been the effort to have some USEFUL account. Assorted searches have suggested I have to wait two years for the account to be inactive before, I can attempt force cancel. At the age of 93 I do not have the time! Can someone please address the problem … I need a functioning google account. I have been functioning with BT … and circuitous other means but a functioning google account would be a help at this stage of life. Ron Craddock. Why can’t I have a new google account as well as a dormant one?
I am not Google, and I cannot help you directly.
I didn’t think Google made dormant accounts available again, ever, so I’m concerned your approach is doomed. My suggestion is to get/use a new account and move on.
