A couple of weeks ago, I released an update to The Ask Leo! Guide to Staying Safe on the Internet – Free Edition. That free edition is what you get when you subscribe to The Ask Leo! newsletter. If you’re already a subscriber, don’t worry! This next edition of the newsletter on June 21st [2016] will have a download link for you to get a copy of this updated book.
I sometimes call this my most important book because it covers a broad range of things to staying safe on the internet, everything from the software you need to run to what it means to have common sense to cloud safety to just a bunch of other things.
Like I said, this is the free edition meaning that you can get it for free and you’re actually free to even share it with others. It’s that, you know the topic is just that important to me these days. I’m also in the process of wrapping up right now, the expanded edition of The Ask Leo! Guide to Staying Safe on the Internet.
It’s roughly, well, I was just looking at it. It’s just a little over twice as big as the free edition and goes into a number of additional topics and goes into some of the existing topics more deeply than the free edition does. I hope to have that available here in the coming weeks. You’ll obviously hear about it here but if you have already purchased the paid edition of The Ask Leo! Guide to Staying Safe on the Internet, the previous version of this book, you actually already own the new edition before it even comes out.
One of my rules of thumb, I guess, when it comes to the books that I sell is that you get updates for life so if you’ve already purchased The Ask Leo! Guide to Staying Safe on the Internet, keep an eye on your registered members area. Make sure you’ve registered the book using the link in the book but then head out to the registered members area because that’s where you’ll find the digital copy of the updated, expanded edition of The Ask Leo! Guide to Staying Safe on the Internet when it’s released probably in a couple of weeks. Give it a couple of weeks before it comes out.
We’re just finishing up a couple of things. I decided yesterday that it needed a couple of more articles on ransomware, for example, so we’re polishing a few things and making sure that everything is what it should be but I’m hoping to get it out probably in a couple of weeks.
It’s interesting, I refer to this from time to time as my most important book and it’s actually based on something I consider to be my most important article, “Internet Safety: 7 Steps to Stay Safe on the Internet” is an article on Ask Leo!, here’s a link to it and it’s something I wrote originally, gosh, several years ago and it’s been revised several different times.
You’ll see that it’s actually linked to the Ask Leo! homepage; it’s something that I point people at from time to time because it is a good, basic overview of basically everything you need to do or want to do to stay safe on the internet. That article turned into a book a few years ago and that book has been revised a few times now and we’re now up to the fourth revision.
The free edition is roughly 88 pages long. Like I said, the expanded edition is well over 200 pages by now, in the PDF form. So in other words, there’s lots and lots and lots of information to help you stay safe as you navigate our online world.
So, if you are not a subscriber to the newsletter, go subscribe right now: newsletter.askleo.com. You’ll see the offer right there. As soon as you confirm your subscription you’ll get a copy of the free edition of The Ask Leo! Guide to Staying Safe on the Internet.

If you’ve purchased the paid version of The Ask Leo! Guide to Staying Safe on the Internet, hang tight; you’re welcome to the free version if you’re already a newsletter subscriber and I know that most of you are but hang tight. In a couple of weeks in the registered owners section you will find the updated fourth edition of the expanded edition of The Ask Leo! Guide of Staying Safe on the Internet available to you there as well.

No questions. Just a note to say Thank You I enjoy your site as do friends I have told about.
I believe this is very important about security in the internet. I have been using the internet sense the nineties. I’m 88 and love the internet and use it every day. When I worked at Hughes Aircraft in southern California in the sixties I work in the IBN tab room sorting tab cards by the thousands. This was a very large machine and used a large space. The computer to today is small and everybody can use. thanks.
