File “Save As” in Word has disappeared! I’ve searched this everywhere I
could think of in your answers and found nothing. Two answers I found on Google
didn’t help.
In this excerpt from
Answercast #51, I look at a Microsoft Word installation that has lost some
menu items.

Microsoft Office menus
What most people don’t realize is that Microsoft Office programs menus are
completely customizable.
If you want to move the menu structure around; if you want to add your own
menu items; if you want to rename the menu items that are there, you can do all
that. A side effect of that customizability is that occasionally it is possible
to completely accidentally remove something from the menus, such as Save
As.
It’s not easy and I’m not exactly what happened to you, but it should be
something that you can fix.
Customizing the menu
-
If you right-click on the toolbar (or on a menu), one of
the options there should be Customize. -
Click on that.
Work through the dialogs and use the Help system to understand how you can
go back and customize the menu structure within Word.
- You should then be able to add the Save As menu back to the file menu
without too much trouble.
Search Office help
It will take a little bit of research. I don’t have the step by step for you
unfortunately. I will tell you that the step-by-step probably changes depending
on whether you’re using Word 2003, 2007 or 2010, but that’s the direction I
would point you at.
Right-click out on the menu (or on the ribbon or on the menu) and choose
the Customize option and you should be able to make all sorts of changes including simply repairing it.
Repair Microsoft Office installation
If that is too daunting for you then, repair is actually another option.
-
If you fire up Control Panel,
-
Add/Remove Programs,
-
You should be able to right-click on the Microsoft Office
entry there; -
And one of the options will be to Repair the Office
installation.
That will require you original installation CDs, but once you do that, that
should theoretically also repair Word’s menu structures. So give those things a
try.
Next from Answercast 51 – How do I go back to plain http for Google Plus?
Worked just as you said. Thank you for all you do.
Full explanation can be found here:

If you are in a Word or Excel document you can just hit the F12 function key to bring up the ‘save as’ dialogue box and bypass the file menu altogether. Or shift F12 to save changes to an already saved doc.
Absolutely right, you can change any setting by customizing the menu. The simple steps are:
1.Go to Tools-> Customize.
2.Click on Command tab.
3.Now select the missing command, in this case Save As.
