I provide tech support for people on the side so I am also in this situation. My recommendation would be to subscribe to TechNet and use the media and not the registration keys.
I do this all the time with OEM keys. Works like a charm.
Might be difficult to justify the cost of TechNet for only Windows Vista but it is an option.
