Can an email be sent to a non-existent email address? By mistake, I sent an
email to another domain which included my personal info. I have verified that
the email doesn’t exist. Is there any issue that one can access my information,
like the domain holder?
In this excerpt from
Answercast #9, I explore how email addresses work, how they are attached to
domain names, and the circumstances where an email has no chance of going
through.

Getting spam from nonexistent users within domain.
Very common. It’s trivial to use fake “From:” addresses.
That’s perfectly normal. It’s not really from within the same domain. Spammers can easily fake the return address.
Some domains keep track of how many undeliverable emails you send to their domain. If you send TOO MANY yiour address might get tagged as a spammer, and other emails from you even to valid addresses might be rejected.
