Why am I getting error code 800701f7 in MSN Messenger?

Why am I getting error code 800701f7 in MSN Messenger?

I’ve received a small flood of reports of people having problems signing in
to MSN Messenger. When they attempt to connect they’re getting an error code
800701f7.

Become a Patron of Ask Leo! and go ad-free!

A quick look on the web indicates that 800701f7 indicates a “server too
busy” state. And sure enough, when I go to look at .Net Messenger Status Page it, too, reports “Server is
too busy”. It’s not reporting that as the .NET Messenger service status, it’s reporting that the server is too busy to even return the status of the
.NET Messenger service. (I’m also getting other errors on that site occasionally as well.)

Or more simply: the .NET Messenger Service seems to be having some
problems.

There’s no way to tell when it’ll be back. The only advice I have at this
point is to wait a while and try again later.

  1. i signed into msn messenger 7.0 and being on it for about 10 minutes, it cuts me off and when i try and sign back in, it’s tell me about 80072efd. what is that and why aren’t they unable to sign me in. they don’t even tell you why and give no explanation.
so what’s wrong y i can’t sign into msn messenger?

  2. Yep I frequently receive a similar error message but sometimes i get different ones if i try over and over again. In the past I could sign on in MSN web messenger instead but now that page doesn’t load. I don’t think that the fault is just in MSN 7.0 Beta though because I cannot log on using windows messenger (equivalent of version 3 or 4 I think – can’t remember that far back though) either.

I think that microsoft are making changes in their servers which require the servers to be disconnected and so they have less bandwidth for large periods of time, this means that with all the people trying to sign on and off they are unable to process these and the connections just time out. The changes are probably to allow for new functions of MSN 7.0.

  9. save yourself the Microsoft misery, and use the AMSN clone available for windows 32, simply installl and run instead of Microsoft’s MSN, and see what it is like to chat without the Microsoft bullshit.
just type AMSN download, into google and follow the links, download the win32 and install it, and ignore the msn on your xp box forever, You can remove MSN’s version, evben if your tweek the registry, go old msn, use Linux, it isa so much nicer and less intrusive, ….also if you want less popups and viruses dont get any Microsoft updates for anything and use Mozilla firefox browser, instead of that lousy Internet explorer, To Much and Microsoft is trying to get you to use their search rengines……soryy Microsoft, but not all the world is a newbie, and more and more everyday are getting to know Linux…..

  12. Hi, I had the same error message ‘80070193’, and it seems to me that i got it to work again. Go to tools, options, connections and ‘test connection’, which ‘should’ tell you what was wrong, although it didnt work for me. You should try that and then go to ‘advanced settings’ and test every connection, and if any are ‘unable to connect’, untick the box beside that one, and hopefully you will have one that connects (for me it was the TCP one), and try signing-in again, WAHOO!

  22. 7.0 has alot of spyware on it and can buggar up all of ur computer, this is caused by the winks and pictures you recive as it does not check for viruses as u click accept, my advice would be to download 6.2 again, it has a virus scanner and will not let you accept pictures or music if it thinks it is unsafe or harmful to your computer. this may not work for every computer because 7.0 has damaged it to much, if this happens then download ad aware 6 (which you can get by typing it into google) and clean out your computer of spyware, also make sure you have a virus scanner, if not download norton anti virus the same way you download ad aware, and scan it, if it comes up clear then 7.0 has damage ur computer beyond belief, so that means ur gonna have to reboot your computer, which also means you will lose everything you saved on it (games ect), this is all i know so i hope this helps.

  23. Victoria, please don’t post crap. msnmsgr 7 won’t “damage” any computer, give me a break. In fact it blocks the transfer of any executable file, something msnmsgr 6 did not.

  31. Hi Rachel, probably your firewall blocked out the MSN Messenger. You might want to check your blocked and allowed program list in your firewall.

    Reply
  32. hi Cara,

The most likely cause for this problem is that your firewall does not allow MSN Messenger to access the Internet. This happens often if you install a new version of Messenger. Make sure MSN Messenger is allowed access in your firewall rules.

This error might also be occuring because there is a proxy server enabled in MSN Messenger while you do not use one. To remove the proxy settings, click the “Tools” menu and then “Options…” at your MSN Messenger main window. Then in the options screen click “Connection” in the list to the left. Next, click the “Advanced Settings…” button. You can try and uncheck all checkboxes in this screen except the one labeled “TCP” to let MSN Messenger connect through a direct connection. If that does not work you can restore the settings again by checking the boxes you unchecked before.

    Reply
  33. Sorry Rachel ignore my previous post.. Here I have some solutions for you.

First, check the .NET service status as this error may be caused by problems at the MSN servers.

If there are no reported problems on the MSN servers, see if your proxy settings are correct: click “Tools” and then “options” at your MSN Messenger main window. In the options screen click “Connection” in the list to the left. Next, click the “Advanced Settings…” button. If you (likely) do not use a proxy server, try unchecking all the checkboxes except the one labeled TCP and see if you can connect now. (You might have to fully close and start Messenger again before retrying to connect)
If you are on a large network, the network administrator can probably tell you if you should have proxy settings in Messenger.

Make sure if Internet Explorer supports 128 bits encryption. Open Internet Explorer and click Help, then About Internet Explorer. If the Cipher Strength is less then 128 bits download and install the Internet Explorer High Encryption Pack. MSN Messenger needs encryption to validate your username and password.

In Internet Explorer: click Tools, then Internet Options, select the “connections” tab. Try unchecking (if checked) “Use a proxy server for LAN” and check “Automatically detect settings.”. This should enable both Internet Explorer and MSN Messenger to automatically find the best way to connect to the Internet.

    Reply
  34. if you go to your explorer tools menu, then click internet options and on the connections tab, there should be something to do with connection throuch LAN, if you untick all of the boxes then MSN should now work properly. :)

  87. type 192.168.0.1 in your url. your user name will be admin and passowd will be PASSWORD or 1234. you should then see a list of options on the left hand side one of these will give you your mru and mtu settings to make sure they are set to 1400 that will be on the left under wan config normally. allso make sure that your system clock is set to the right time its normally at the bottom right of the screen.

  88. it all depends on which router you have have with netgear you have to type 192.168.0.1 in your search bar. then a box should come up type in admin and then password sometimes the password can also be admin look for anything that says wan or internet on the left hand side its normally in one of those options if you have a different router let me no and i will get back to you with the details

  91. Leo hi,
We have all had hotmail & MSN at work & all of a sudden get the 800701f7 message. We are on a network system with Broadband. We thought that work stopped it. I am not sure as I have seen this message previously & then it was ok. However, the 192.168.0.1 in the url is a little different to the one currently on our computer I am not sure we can change this number on our computer – what the implications are & secondly – the number is not highlighted for us to change. Please help us

  102. hello, i have baught the belkin high speed mode wireless router. F5D7633uk4A. i have have had this router for about half a year now and has been working fine with everything, but recently i keep getting signed-out of msn messenger, this also happens to my brother. we are the only 2 in the house on wireless but have never had problems befor. the annoying thing is that it keeps doing it all the time, i get about 2 mins into a convo and then it will disconnect me and my brother. as far as i can see my router it all well and does not lose a connection or drop the signal. but still i get signed out. my isp is tiscali and i have the 8mb max service.
please help, this is driving me crazy.

  104. THE SOLUTION TO 800701f7 with MSN MESSENGER

I have analysed this issue over an hours period of time trying to fix this problem 800701f7 on MSN on my mates OS, i suspect if you have correct connectivity with the internet and if u can not use MSN messenger application, key ports malfunction, when u test the connectivity with MSN messenger by click on messenger, tools options, then connectivity, then connection settings-advance settings and then test your http proxy settings with the connectivity with .NET frame work with the MSN network, THIS PROMBLEM I assume would be due to Your .NET Frame work Drivers on your system are not functioning correctly

    Reply
  105. REINSTALL Your .NET Framework drivers depending what OS system you are running on your computer, if you have Windows XP Pro or Home i would suggest basic version 1, .net framework 1 at Microsoft.com co-operation! Hope it works out?! lol its worth a try!
