How do I overline characters in Word?
I had to double check, but “over” line is exactly what the questioner wanted. Word does a great job with underlines, and even strike-through. But lines over a character (common in medical shorthand) are another story.

If your inquirer needs to do a great deal of overlining, words tedious system for over-lining may not be practical. Abi Word has an over-line as one of their tool bar options. It is compatible with MS Word, so a Word document will import into Abi without difficulty (however the over-lining will not transfer back to Word.) Abi word program is free.
continued from the above post. I had not used the Abi word program since I got my new computer and with the new computer some of the formatting does not transfer from MS Word very smoothly. If one still decides to use the Abi Word program, here is how to access the over-line tool bar: select “View” then “Toolbars” then “extra.” The overline tool will be added to the toolbar as a capital A with a line over it.
