CSV is a plain text file format typically used to contain tables of data.

Plain text files can be opened with text editors and viewers, like Notepad. Because it contains tables, however, CSV is particularly useful to save from and view in spreadsheet programs such as Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, and others.
