Term: breach

A breach is any unauthorized access of a computer system or its data.

While technically a breach doesn’t require that data be exposed or other damage done — merely getting into the system is enough to be a breach — it’s more commonly used to refer to instances where a system is compromised somehow and data of some sort stolen.
