A NAS is a computer connected to a network with hard disks “shared” and made available to other computers on the network.
Strictly speaking, a NAS is a device dedicated to housing and sharing disk storage on a network.
In looser terms, any computer sharing disk space could be considered a NAS of sorts.
In many cases, dedicated NAS devices are stripped-down PCs, often running a version of Linux configured to act as a NAS.« Back to Glossary Index
